Happy Holi-daze!

Last Friday, LK took time-out to come together and celebrate another successful year. We started the evening with a rousing thunderdome-style gift exchange and general pre-funk. After the gift wrap had settled, and we were all belly warm and ready to venture, we made our way to Beauty and Essex for a delicious meal. We ended the evening by marathoning our way to closing time at a watering hole on the Lower East Side. Big thanks to David and Beat for hosting such a wonderful party, and more big thanks to everyone involved with LK in 2011. It was an excellent year, and we have many people to thank and many blessings to count. Here’s to you and yours in 2012.

At this year’s Promax BDA conference, held here in New York in June, Al Gore was the keynote speaker… and guess who got a very surprising shout out for the work we did on the Current TV Rebrand!? No, it wasn’t Garth Brooks.

What’s better than gracefully and quietly turning 40? An office surprise party, natch! Even better if the party turns into a “karaoke night.” If you’ve ever ended the night with karaoke, you know exactly how that feels the next morning. Rough! All jokes aside, we were happy to honor David’s 40th birthday in style, and frankly, it’s always fun to pull a fast one on your boss.

This summer, LK is lucky enough to have two fabulous interns helping us out around the studio. Asia and Zoe have handled the tornado of LK activity like real pros; we can’t thank them enough for all of their hard work and flexibility. We will most certainly miss them when they leave us. Keep in touch, have a great summer, Mrs. Smith’s class sucked!… wait, am I signing their yearbooks?

Today at the LK Studio, we had the pleasure of celebrating three people from our office all born on the same day… a birthday hat trick! Our best goes out to Josh, Jean and Dominique. Although Dominique holds down the LK front in LA, she was with us in spirit.

Exciting news, dear reader. We’re back with another installment of Inside the LK Studio. Up this week, our resident Canadian: Dave Abel. Like most Canadians, Dave loves hockey. And he doesn’t understand sarcasm. But that’s ok, cause we’re NEVER sarcastic here at LK.

Q: What is your favorite word?
A: “Constantinople.” More like a Proper Noun. But still awesome.

Q: What is your least favorite word?
A: “Like.”

Q: What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
A: Passionate people, pushing boundaries, and trying something you don’t know how to do. Oh, and Hockey.

Q: What turns you off?
A: Bacon Grease.

Q: What is your favorite curse word?
A: “Bullocks.” I’m not British, but it’s great.

Q: What sound or noise do you love?
A: Quiet. That ‘I’m no longer in New York City’ quiet you can only find deep in Muskoka.

Q: What sound or noise do you hate?
A: Garbage Trucks.

Q: What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
A: Hands down: Astronaut.

Q: What profession would you not like to do?
A: Dentist. Teeth = Gross.

Q: If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?
A: “Perfect. Now we can start the party.!”

Rocked to the Core.

Inspiration often comes in odd forms. Sometimes it comes in long form (see below image).

What you’re looking at, good reader, is a cross-section of a rock located in White Rock, New Mexico. The citizens of White Rock have painted this particular rock again and again over the course of many years, sometimes twice a day. After decades of doing so, the layers of paint alone measured five and a half inches thick. Dang, this rock changes its look more often than Lady Gaga!

How does this relate to LK? It doesn’t, really. Other than we, too, like to get to the core of things. And we’re ever evolving? And we’re a colorful group? Maybe I’m reaching.
